Dr Paul Alsop
Since 2010 I have lived and worked in New Zealand in both the Coromandel and the Bay of Plenty.
Graduating from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne in 2008 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, I spent my hospital career working in the Lake District, and also Northumberland in both General Practice and at the North Cumbria University Hospitals. I also hold a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science, with a specialist interest in Histology (microscopic study of biopsies).
Until 2022, I worked as a General Practitioner, however I stepped away to spend more time with my young family, I am still a Fellow of the Royal College of GPs, but my sole interest these days is Skin Cancer Medicine and Dermatological Surgery (surgery to remove skin lesions).
I am an Accredited Skin Cancer Doctor with the Skin Cancer College of Australasia, I hold Advanced Certificates in Skin Cancer Surgery and Medicine and also Dermoscopy (with distinction) which is a specialist study of the skin. I perform skin checks for Papamoa Pines enrolled patients, I work at a private clinic and I manage surgical referrals from the WBOP Primary Health Organisation skin lesion service, which essentially provides funded surgical options without the need to go to a hospital for those patients that meet a certain referral threshold.
Away from medicine, I enjoy spending time with my young family and I am a semi-professional photographer.
