Repeat prescriptions
From 1 September 2024 we will be making some changes to our repeat prescription process and increasing the fee for urgent script requests.
Our Prescribing Clinicians have been overwhelmed with the increasing numbers of urgent script requests, this is neither safe nor sustainable and we are asking for your help to make this process more efficient.
Please also note that we are required to regularly review your prescribed medication for safety purposes by the Medical College of New Zealand Good Prescribing Practice
This is why we request that you come for a GP visit every 6 months so that your GP or Nurse Prescriber can review all repeat medications to ascertain that they are still relevant, check that they don’t interact with any newly prescribes medication , confirm the dosage is still applicable and that and subsidy conditions have been updated.
We are aware that in these current challenging times, it can be difficult to get an appointment with your GP for this review – this is why we recommend that you book your medication review at least 1 month in advance of when your prescription is due to run out
Please note that some medications that are not on your long term medication list, or which may not have been prescribed for you for a long time may not be prescribed without review
We are asking that you give us at least 5 working days’ notice for routine script requests. The fee for routine scripts requests will be $25 via the my indici portal.
When you notice that you are nearing to the end of your supply of medications, we suggest that this will be the time to phone us and request your next prescription – don’t leave it until you take your last tablet !
A reminder alert on your smart phone or a note on your calendar for 10 weeks after you collect your script, would be a great way to help us to ensure you get your request to us within the 5 working day time frame.
The 5 working days gives our Prescribers time to review your notes, medications, and check if you are needing any follow up. It also gives those Prescribers who do not work every day, time to review and complete their own patients script requests to ensure continuity of your care.
Scripts required within 3 working days will incur an additional urgent fee of $7, (a total charge of $32). There may be extenuating circumstances and situations beyond your control, this is understandable, the fee in these situations will be at the discretion of the Prescriber.
There are however many prescriptions that cannot be supplied without an appointment, and if this is the case, this will be discussed with you and noted in your file at the time of prescribing the medication.
We want to thank you for making this change of process as simple as possible for everyone involved.
